170 Utility
170 Utility is a 1947 International Engine known as “Ceasar”. Ceasar was purchased in 1947 by HVFD members as their first new piece of apparatus. The engine was HVFD’s only engine until 1975.
Ceasar was sold in 1994 to Sullivan D’Amico, a well known fire apparatus collector in Washington, PA. The engine remained in his collection until he passed in 2007. The D’Amico family decided to auction the apparatus to prospective buyers all over the world.
A group of our members came across Ceasar while searching the internet one day. The members decided to write the family and offer them $4000, the same amount it was purchased by Mr. D’Amico in 1994. The family replied, accepting our offer.
Ceasar renovation began with fresh paint by L. Thomas Body Shop. The truck then returned to HVFD where it underwent interior, wiring, and a motor overhaul. The 1947 was finished in December of 2008 and set off on its maiden voyage, escorting Santa Claus around the community of Heidelberg.
