Important Pool Chemical Safety Information

The Allegheny County Health Department has just released new guidelines regarding the safe use and storage of chemicals used in home swimming pools.  These updated guidelines can be found here.  Should you have any questions regarding the implementaion of these recommendations, please feel free to contact us.

Congratulations to 10 HVFD firefighters who have completed PA Essentials of Firefighting

Chief Joseph Wissel, Firefighter Mike Wissel, Firefighter Mickey Wissel, Lieutenant Joseph Henke and Firefighter Chris Fisher are on their way to complete the 166-hour PA Essentials of Firefighting program that is being offered at Sturgeon VFD. Junior Firefighter Raymond Henke, Junior Firefighter T.J. Hartnett, Junior Firefighter Austin Perhach, Junior Firefighter James Glantz, and Junior Firefighter Jenner Urbanek completed the first three modules of the 4 part class.  This program instilled necessary training for our junior members to be support firefighter, which means they can help out with exterior operations only.  All the members of HVFD would like to congratulate these firefighters on their accomplishment.  

HVFD RECEIVES AN AFG GRANT FOR 5th CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department has received a Grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program by the Department of Homeland Security.  This years grant award is for 22 sets of protective firefighter gear.  The officers of HVFD along with a special committee has been reviewing multiple pairs of gear and plan to make a decision on who will manufacture the new equipment by April the 15, 2010.

Fish Fry to Benefit HVFD

The HVFD is planning on holdings its annual fish fry this year on Good Friday, April 2.  We encourage you to stop by and visit our hall and enjoy your fish between 11:00-7:00, however, take out orders will also be available.  Unfortunately, we will not be offering delivery.

As in years past, we will also be offering our famous pirogies.  Pirogi orders cannot be guaranteed unless pre-ordered.  Pre-order yours by calling Nancy at (412) 722-6314.

Wednesday Night Bingo

Looking for something to do in the snow?  Stop down the HVFD tonight at 7:00 for our annual Wednesday Night Bingo.  Our parking lot is plowed and salted and waiting for cars.  If you would like more information, feel free to call the station at (412) 276-5955.

During the winter storm this past weekend, the HVFD answered 12 calls for service and put in over 300 man hours cutting down trees, securing power lines, and ensuring the safety of borough residents.  We would like to take the opportunity to thank all residents for their vigilance and patience during the severe weather.  If you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact us non-emergently at 412.276.5955; in an emergency, always call 9-1-1.

HVFD Prepares for Winter Storm

In coordination with the Heidelberg Emergency Management Coordinator, the HVFD is preparing to deal with the effects from a severe winter storm.  Personnel will be standing by in the station from 5:00 pm until the threat of winter weather passes tomorrow.  If any residents require non-emergency assistance, please call us at (412) 276-5955.  In the event of an emergency, please call 911. 

We also ask for residents assistance in keeping fire hydrants easily accesible.  If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please do your best to ensure that we can access it quickly in the event of an emergency.

Hall Information Form Down

Sturgeon VFD to Host Essentials Class

Sturgeon VFD has announced that they will be hosting an Essentials of Firefighting class at their station, beginning Thursday, January 7th.  The class will run every Thursday at 7:00pm with a few select Saturdays and Sundays.  HVFD will be sponsoring a group of members to attend this training, and will leave the station at 6:00pm.  For more information, check after the break.
